If you are looking for a way to listen to WhatsApp audio messages without the sender's knowledge, you can find below 3 different ways to listen to WhatsApp audio.

Listen to WhatsApp audio without the sender's knowledge

Whenever you open a WhatsApp text or voice message, WhatsApp automatically generates 2 blue ticks next to the message to notify the sender that his/her audio message has been heard. The "Read Receipts" setting in WhatsApp is useful in most cases because it allows senders to know that their messages are being read or heard. However, in some cases, you may have valid reasons for wanting to listen to WhatsApp audio without the sender knowing whether you actually listened to his/her voice message. In this case, you can use any of the following methods to listen to WhatsApp audio without those blue ticks.

1. Disable read receipts in WhatsApp

  • Probably the most reliable way to listen to WhatsApp audio without notifying the sender is to disable WhatsApp read receipts on your device before turning on WhatsApp voice messages.
  • Open WhatsApp Tap the 3 menu icon and select Settings in the drop down menu.
  • Note: On iPhone, you can tap the Settings tab directly in the bottom menu.
  • In the Settings screen, go to Accounts / Privacy / scroll down and uncheck the "Read receipts" box.
  • After disabling read receipts, you can open and listen to WhatsApp audio or voice messages.
  • Since read receipts are disabled in your WhatsApp account, the sender will not be able to see if you actually listened to his/her voice messages. The only downside to this method is that as long as read receipts are disabled in your WhatsApp account, you cannot get read receipts from other people.

2. Enable airplane mode and listen to WhatsApp audio

Another easy way to listen to WhatsApp audio without the sender's knowledge is to enable airplane mode on your device before turning on WhatsApp audio messages. This method works because airplane mode cuts off WiFi and cellular connections on your device, preventing read receipts from being sent to the sender.

  • On iPhone: Open Settings and move the toggle next to Airplane Mode to the on position.
  • On an Android phone: Go to Settings/Connections/Toggle Airplane Mode to the On position.
  • With Airplane Mode enabled, you can open and listen to WhatsApp voice messages without those blue ticks.
  • The read receipt cannot be sent to the sender because your phone is disconnected from WiFi and cellular.
  • After listening to the audio message, close WhatsApp and enable airplane mode on your device until you want the other person to know that you have listened to his/her audio message.
  • The downside of this method is that it prevents you from using WhatsApp until you are ready to reply to a message or communicate to your contact that you have heard his/her audio message.
  • After opening WhatsApp, these two blue ticks will appear next to the message, informing the sender that the message has been read.

3. Use of third-party apps

There are many apps on the App Store for iPhone and the Google Play Store for Android phones that allow you to read WhatsApp messages and listen to WhatsApp audio without knowing the sender. One such application is "Unseen", which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store on Android devices and the App Store on iPhone and iPad.

  • Open the Google Play Store (Android phone) or App Store (iPhone, iPad) and download the Unseen app.
  • After downloading the app, open the Unseen App in the pop-up window and tap OK to give the Unseen app free access to notifications on your device.
  • On the next screen (notification access screen), give the Unseen App access to notifications by moving the toggle next to Unseen to the ON position.
  • In the confirmation popup, tap the Allow option to give the Unseen app access to notifications.
  • From now on, any new WhatsApp messages you receive on your phone will start showing up in the Unseen App.
  • This will allow you to read WhatsApp text messages and listen to WhatsApp audio messages without generating those blue ticks, although the messages are read in the Unseen app.

WhatsApp is a smartphone-to-smartphone communication application currently available for iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, WhatsApp Messenger, Symbian, and Blackberry users. WhatsApp is registered based on your mobile phone number. When registering, you need to enter your mobile phone number and accept a verification text message.
